GAME REVIEW

AN EXTRA POINT IS THE DIFFERENCE

It was not a record-breaking performance, but it was a back and forth, hard fought game by both teams

By JOEL RENNER, University Independent

Lima Warriors Staff Reporter

6/25/06 – ADA - For the fourth straight season, number one-ranked Lima Warriors are a 4-0 football team.

The Warriors played a second divisional rival in the last two weeks Saturday with a 7-6 win over the Ft. Wayne Flyers at War Memorial Stadium before a crowd of dedicated fans.

The match up was rescheduled to a home game in Ada due to a field discrepancy with the Flyers home field.

In addition to beating the Ohio Knights in week three, Lima has now defeated both opponents in the Ohio Valley Division and holds a two game lead in divisional standings.

The Warriors rode the legs of running backs Chris Brooks and Columbus “Toledo” Mitchell to victory.  Brooks barreled his way over the Flyers defense for 67 yards on six carries in the game.

Mitchell was the target of some pre-game heckling by the Flyers.

“We’re coming to get you Toledo,” said some Flyers players.

Despite any distractions, Mitchell accumulated 65 yards, including a three-yard touchdown run with 5:20 left in the third quarter. On that play, Mitchell acquired his fourth touchdown of the season and was named the offensive player of the game.

That was the lone touchdown for the Warriors, but was good enough for the win.  Full Story

GAME PREVIEW

THE BATTLE OF US-30, ROUND TWO

The Fort Wayne Flyers will travel east on US-30 for the second time in two years to play the Warriors

By JOEL RENNER, University Independent

Lima Warriors Staff Reporter

6/21/06 – LIMA - The Lima Warriors will not have to travel far for their next away game against the Ft. Wayne Flyers which has been moved to Ada.

The change of venues was made due to a field discrepancy on Ft. Wayne’s home field.  This gives the (3-0) Warriors two home games against the (0-3) Flyers this season and the Warriors fans one more chance to see their beloved team at home. The Warriors face the Flyers for the second home match up August 5, but are not going to plan ahead.

The game will be played Saturday, June 24, at War Memorial Stadium in Ada, OH.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 P.M.

The Flyers are coming off a 16-0 loss to the Ohio Knights on June 10.

The Flyers are led by quarterback Eric Adams who has thrown for 133 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Curtis Martin and Quinten Bowen are the top running backs for the Flyers.  Bowen has rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown while Martin has rushed for 46 yards this season.

“Their running backs have speed and run the ball hard,” said coach John Parkins.  “If their line doesn't step up, they will be in for a long day
with our defense.”  Full Story
