The
pads of some Lima players will not have the
opportunity to collect dust this off-season, some of
them will be strapping those pads on to participate in
the Crushstang Open 8 on 8 Indoor Football Tournament
on January 7th and 8th in
Waterloo, Indiana. The Crushstang Open is a 14 team
double elimination tournament that will begin Saturday
morning and conclude Sunday evening.
This
will be the first indoor full contact tournament that
Lima has ever took part in and head coach John Parkins
believes it a great opportunity to keep active during
the off-season.
It
will be a great weekend of football and a chance for
some of our team to spend time with each other during
the winter months, which is something we don’t usually
get a chance to do. Plus it might give some players a
jump start into their off-season workout regimen,
which is something I believe a few of them are
procrastinating on Parkins said.
The
tournament rules only allow a maximum of 18 players on
the roster. It hasn’t been easy to put together a
roster Parkins said. Not because we didn’t have the
players who wanted to play, but because we had to
limit the roster to only 18 players. We wish we could
have taken more of our players; it has been hard to
leave players off the roster.
The
Warriors’ roster is mostly made up of players from
their 2005 roster, with the exception of quarterback
Dustin Howard who will be joining the team for the
first time during the tournament.
The
Warriors anticipate seeing some very good competition
in the tournament with teams from Columbus, Fort Wayne
and Chicago all in the tournament. We honestly do not
know what to expect, so we are going there with an
open mind Parkins added. We are taking a team that we
believe can compete and plan on just doing what we do
best, hit hard and play Warriors football.
