Have
you ever had something that you really loved doing,
but had to give it up due to situations out of your
control; but then not a day goes by that you’re not
thinking about playing the game that you love to
play? That was me last year said Runion.
The
Lima Warriors leading receiver in 2004 is back. Kaene
Runion is returning for the 2006 campaign after taking
one year off. Although the 6’4” 220 pound wide
receiver was listed on the Warriors official roster
for 2005, he was only able to play one game.
Family issues prevented him from being with the team.
I
really wanted to be with the team last year said
Runion. My daughter took a lot my time and I just
wasn’t able to do both. This season she is older and
I will be able to bring her with me to the games,
which will be great.
Head
coach John Parkins likes the potential of his passing
game in 2006. With Runion’s presence on the field the
Warriors will enter the season with even more weapons
at receiver; a receiving crew that is already deep
with talent and combined for 34 touchdown receptions
in 2005 to be exact. In 2004 Runion caught 43 passes
for 818 yards and 16 touchdowns, which included a 114
yard 3 touchdown performance on June 12, 2004, verse
the Great Lake Makos.
“They
are all great athletes and very capable. Each one of
them has different strengths that we can exploit in
our game planning,” Parkins said. “The fun part will
be getting them all involved in the offense.”
Its
great playing in Lima, Runion said. Although I live in
Tiffin and there are other Semi-Pro teams closer to
me, it is well worth the drive to play with the
Warriors. The organization is unsurpassed. My
teammates, my coaches, and everything about the team
are just top notch compared to other teams. The
Warriors have spoiled me, so I can’t see myself
playing for any other team.
In my
eyes I’m not coming back to a team, I’m coming back to
a family Runion added. Every player that I played
with during the 2004 season really took me in and
accepted me. They listened why I wasn’t going to play
in 2005 and told me I was making the right decision
Runion shares the same goal as many of his teammates
for 2006, win a championship.
“My
personal goal is to make everyone around me better,”
Runion said. "Even if it’s just making someone laugh
during a tough time in a game; I love hot dogs. Other
than that, I want to make the same impact as I did in
2004 and help this team win.”
“I
want to thank John (Parkins) for keeping in touch
during this past year and I would like to thank my
teammates who have welcomed me back with open arms,”
Runion added. “Thank you Warriors and lets not just
get there this year, lets get one this year.”
