40 to
21 is a bad memory in the minds of the Lima Warriors,
because that was score of the only blemish on an
otherwise excellent season.
The
team that hung those 40 points on Lima is the
undefeated Grand Rapids Thunder who awaits them in the
Minor League Football Association Eastern Conference
championship. The game will take place on Saturday,
September 10th, 7pm at Comstock High School in Grand
Rapids, Michigan.
Head
Coach John Parkins feels that the Warriors need to
minimize mistakes and take advantage of the Thunder’s
mistakes to come out victorious in this contest.
“We
need to do what we’ve done all season, force mistakes
and capitalize on them, which is exactly what Grand
Rapids did to us earlier this season,” said Parkins.
“Then most importantly we need to control the ball
offensively and keep our defense off the field.”
That
is easier said than done, because in the first meeting
the Warriors failed to contain second team all league
selection Quarterback Dan Richard and his corps of
talented receivers. Richard passed for over 400 yards
and 6 touchdowns on the vaunted Warriors defense.
Receiver B.J. Haney did most of the damage, catching
three of Richards’ scoring strikes. The Warriors have
improved and with the return of cornerback Glenn
White, who missed the first game due to injury, Lima
believes that the game plan they will unveil on
Saturday will do the trick against the explosive
Thunder.
The Lima Warriors have a lot on the line in this game
as the winner will host the MLFA championship game
against either the Daly City (CA) Renegades or the
Wasatch (UT) Wildcats. Warrior fans can follow all of
