Warriors running back Jeremy Bott predicted a “true
blowout” before the game on Saturday.
Four
touchdowns later, he did his part to help the
prediction come true.
The
Warriors improved their record to (2-0) as they
stomped the (0-1) West Ohio Wranglers 68-0 Saturday at
War Memorial Stadium in
Ada.
After
not getting on the field in the first quarter, Bott
had a 34-yard touchdown run early in the second
quarter and the Warriors had their way with
West Ohio.
“I had
a great time today,” said Bott. “It was a great
experience and you can’t ask for anything better than
four touchdowns.”
Bott
set a franchise record with his four touchdowns as the
most touchdowns scored in a single game by a player.
The
Warriors know they are for real, as they had it all
over the Wranglers, rolling up 453 total yards. Bott
had 121 all-purpose yards, setting the tone for
Lima’s second most lopsided win in franchise history.
Running back Chris Brooks had 76 yards rushing on the
day and got the Warriors on the board first with a 12-
yard touchdown run early in the first quarter.
Full
back Calvin Brown pounded in the ball with
1:00 left in the first quarter to extend the lead 12-0.
Quarterback Justin Henderson struck with
13:16 in the second quarter on a one-yard touchdown pass to wide
receiver Joe Butcher.
In
less than a minute Bott scored his second and third
touchdowns of the game. The first was a 16-yard
reception from Henderson with 4:05 remaining in the
half and the second a 17-yard run with 3:33 left
sending the Warriors into the locker room with a 40-0
lead.
The
Warriors defense dominated again by only allowing
36-yards of total offense which helped make the win
convincing and frustrated the Wranglers offense all
game.
“The
defense is having a blast out there and they know they
are going to punish offenses,” said Coach John
Parkins.
By
contrast, Wranglers’ quarterback Brandon Meyer had a
miserable time, throwing for three yards and sacked
three times by Troy Williamson, Alphonso “Biggie”
Townsend and Adam Gill. The Wranglers turned the ball
over two times on fumbles recovered by linebacker
Davey Settlemire and cornerback Dustin Hunt.
The
night was full of predictions as Joe Butcher
guaranteed a punt return for a touchdown coming out at
half time and shortly after, that prediction also came
true. He returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown at
10:54 in the third quarter.
By
that point, no more predictions had to have been
said. The numbers said it all.
Columbus “Toledo” Mitchell had 75 yards rushing in the
game and a 35-yard touchdown run with 5:59 in the
third quarter.
The
Warriors had the luxury of using two quarterbacks in
the game against a dazed defense. Henderson went
six-of-nine for 70 yards overall with touchdown passes
to two different receivers. The one to Butcher set
the tone.
Henderson was on the bench in the fourth quarter,
allowing Dustin Hunt to get some time at quarterback.
Hunt went two-of-three including a nine-yard pass to
Bott, which became his record-breaking touchdown.
Hunt closed out the Warriors scoring on a three-yard
scamper with 3:30 left in the game.
Kickers Fred Hallett and Randy Ryan had solid
performances as they shared duties on the extra point
attempts. Hallett nailed four attempts and Ryan hit
two in his season debut.
Coach
Parkins was pleased with the atmosphere for the first
home game.
“The fan experience was great”, said Parkins. “As the
buzz continues, our crowds will get bigger and we were
able to raise some money for a good charity
today.”(Big Brothers and Big Sisters)
The Warriors are next in action Saturday, June 17, in
Ada at
7:00 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium against divisional
rival Ohio Knights.
