The
Lima Warriors will not have to travel far for their
next away game against the Ft. Wayne Flyers which has
been moved to
Ada.
The
change of venues was made due to a field discrepancy
on
Ft.
Wayne’s
home field. This gives the (3-0) Warriors two
home games against the (0-3) Flyers this season and
the Warriors fans one more chance to see their beloved
team at home. The Warriors face the Flyers for the
second home match up August 5, but are not going to
plan ahead.
The
game will be played Saturday, June 24, at War Memorial
Stadium in Ada, OH. Kickoff is scheduled for
7:05 P.M.
The
Flyers are coming off a 16-0 loss to the Ohio Knights
on June 10.
The
Flyers are led by quarterback Eric Adams who has
thrown for 133 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Curtis Martin and Quinten Bowen are the top running
backs for the Flyers. Bowen has rushed for 72
yards and a touchdown while Martin has rushed for 46
yards this season.
“Their running backs have speed and run the ball
hard,” said coach John Parkins. “If their line
doesn't step up, they will be in for a long day
with our defense.”
“The flyers are known for their strong defense,” said
Parkins. “They are big up front and have several
really good linebackers. This game will be
another
test for our o-line.”
The
Warriors offensive line has already blocked for 776
rushing yards which is over 258 yards a game, 11
rushing touchdowns, seven passing touchdowns, allowed
only one sack per game and blocked for an offense that
averages 45 points a game.
“This is one of the best offensive lines I have ran
behind,” said running back Columbus “Toledo” Mitchell.
“I
think that our line is the best in the league right
now and that’s the truth,” said running back Jeremy
Bott.
The
Warriors are coming off a 32-6 victory over the Ohio
Knights, the same team that the Flyers were held
scoreless against last game.
The
Flyers are another divisional rival that the Warriors
are excited to play.
“I've been looking forward to this one and can't wait
to send them home with their head between their legs,”
said offensive lineman John Lance.
The
two teams have only met once during last season which
resulted in a 24-7 Warriors victory.
The
Warriors defense has been fantastic this year by
having 13 sacks, six interceptions, four fumble
recoveries including one for a touchdown and has only
allowed six points.
If
the Flyers want to even the series, they will have to
handle defensive players like, Alphonso “Biggie”
Townsend, Eric Siefker, Troy Williamson and Davey
Settlemire, whom have stormed quarterbacks all season
and wore down offenses.
The
fan support has been tremendous for the Warriors this
season.
“We
are very pleased with the support we have received
thus far,” said Parkins. “We believe that it will only
continue to get better as the season goes along.
The fans are really enjoying the great atmosphere of
our games.”
The
news of changing of venues hopefully is heard by the
Lima
area so the fans can come out and show support for
their team this Saturday.
“I'm not sure what the attendance will be this week,
considering our fans didn't expect us to
be playing at home,” said Parkins.
