The
Lima Warriors return to action at Ada’s War Memorial
Stadium Saturday, July 29 to face the Motor City
Warthogs.
The
(6-1) Warriors look to bounce back after a
controversial 7-0 loss to the Grand Rapids Thunder two
weekends ago.
“The
Thunder game has dwelled on all of our shoulders for a
week now and here is our chance to redeem our pride
and our confidence,” said offensive lineman John
Lance.
The
(8-2) Warthogs are also coming off of a loss to the
Thunder in last Saturday’s 46-31 defeat.
Saturday’s game features a match up of two of the
league’s top defensive teams.
The
Warriors allow an average of three points a game while
the Warthogs are led by some outstanding defensive
players. Zeek Eatmon leads the Eastern Conference
with 66 tackles. Naquito Gross and Daimion Redmond
have combined for 17 interceptions this season.
Warthog’s quarterback Donald Adams leads the passing
attack and threw for 4 touchdowns in the Warthog’s
first nine games.
The
Warriors are comfortably atop the Ohio Valley Division
with a three game lead over the Fort Wayne Flyers,
while the Warthogs are a game behind the Thunder in
the Great Lakes Division.
The
two teams have four common opponents this season in
which the Warthogs gave up 106 points but the Warriors
only gave up 19 in those games.
Despite a few good players on the Warthogs defense,
they will have trouble getting by the Warriors
offensive line. The Warriors offense will be eager to
put up big numbers in revenge of the low scoring game
versus the Thunder.
“We
all know what the defense brings to the table each and
every game,” said quarterback Kaene Runion. “The
offensive players need to and will step it up.”
The
Warthog’s linebackers will have to control the
Warriors wide array of running backs and hope wide
receivers Joe Butcher, Porfirio Sutton and Jeremy Bott
have unlikely off days.
The
Warthog’s Sylvester Stevens is a 53-year-old running
back that has stunned crowds this year with amazing
plays but the Warriors veteran experience will not
allow anybody else to steal the show.
The
Motor City Warthogs were the Waterford Warthogs last
season and defensive tackle Terrell Thomas was the
lone player to make the 2005 Eastern Conference First
Team. Offensive lineman Roger Medlock returns also as
a second team offensive lineman selection.
The
Warriors held a solid practice last Saturday in place
of a game scheduled that was forfeited by the Ohio
Knights. The week off allowed the Warriors to refocus
and sharpen their game plan for the Warthogs.
The
second ever match up between the two organizations
promises to be an intense game full of excitement.
This
week’s game is fan appreciation night and is brought
to you by Lucas Ford and X-107.5. The Warriors will
also honor past players who have made a great impact
on the organization, on or off the field. $1.00 from
each ticket will be donated to Grampy’s House.
Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
